Exemptions notifications from work permit – work up to 90 days
According to Icelandic law, certain foreign citizens are exempt from requiring a permit to work in Iceland for up to 90 days. It is a requirement to send a notification to the Directorate of Labour about the foreign citizen’s intended employment in Iceland before it starts. With the notification the Directorate of Labour will be able to determine if the foreign citizen fulfils the requirements of being exempt from work permit.
The following foreign citizens are exempt from requiring a work permit to work in Iceland for up to 90 days:
- Scientists, Lectures and Scolars
- Artists, excluding musicians employed to perform in catering establishments
- Athletic coaches
- Business representatives-
Please note that this mainly applies to foreign citizen´s entering Iceland to promote goods and services and to attend business meetings.
- Passenger coach drivers
- Journalists and reporters from foreign media agencies
- Employees, consultants and instructors who are specialized in the assembly, installation, supervision or repair of equipment.
